Welcome to Boone Prairie High School

Our Philosophy

Education that emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, and character development while preparing for college, business ownership and real life.

1. Is Your Teen Ready for College-Level Independence?

Choosing the right high school is about more than grades and test scores. For many families in Whitestown and Boone County, Indiana, the real question is whether a school is preparing students for real independence—before they arrive on a college campus.

At Boone Prairie School, we believe independence is a skill that must be taught, practiced, and supported.

What Does College-Level Independence Really Mean?

College-level independence doesn’t mean students are left on their own. It means they learn how to:

  • Manage time and deadlines responsibly
  • Communicate with teachers proactively
  • Balance academics, rest, and commitments
  • Take ownership of mistakes and growth

These skills are rarely taught explicitly in traditional five-day high schools.

Signs Your Teen May Be Ready

Your teen doesn’t need to be perfect, but they may be ready for a university-model environment if they:

  • Can complete assignments with guidance rather than constant reminders
  • Respond positively to clear expectations
  • Are willing to grow in responsibility and accountability
  • Benefit from smaller class sizes and personal support

How Boone Prairie School Supports This Growth

Our university-model schedule—serving families in Whitestown and across Boone County—allows students to practice independence while remaining supported by teachers and parents.

Students attend classes on campus three days per week and complete guided independent work on assigned days at home. This mirrors the structure of college and professional life, helping students build confidence before graduation.

Independence isn’t assumed. It’s developed—intentionally and safely.

Curious if this model is the right fit for your family? Download our “Is This School Right for Your Teen?” checklist or schedule a campus tour.

2. University approach vs Traditional High School: What Parents in Boone County Should Know

Families in Boone County, Indiana, have more educational options than ever before. One model gaining attention is the university-approach high school—but how does it really compare to a traditional five-day schedule?

Traditional High School Model

Most traditional schools:

  • Meet five days per week
  • Emphasize seat time over mastery

While this works for some students, others struggle with burnout, disengagement, or lack of ownership.

The University Approach Explained

At Boone Prairie School in Whitestown, students attend classes on campus Wednesday through Friday. Monday and Tuesday are structured independent learning days, guided by detailed teacher plans.

A Parent Checklist for Determining Fit

Choosing the right high school is one of the most important decisions a family makes. This checklist is designed to help you honestly assess whether a university-approach model, Christ-centered high school like Boone Prairie School is the right environment for your teen.

This School Is Likely a GREAT Fit If:

Readiness & Learning Style

  • ☐ My teen can work independently with guidance
  • ☐ My teen is capable but would benefit from learning stronger time-management skills
  • ☐ My teen responds well to clear expectations and accountability
  • ☐ My teen prefers depth of learning over busywork

Character & Growth

  • ☐ We value character development as much as academic achievement
  • ☐ We want our teen to grow in responsibility, integrity, and perseverance
  • ☐ We believe independence should be taught, not assumed
  • ☐ We want a Christ-centered environment that supports personal growth

Academic & Future Goals

  • ☐ We want our teen prepared for college-level expectations
  • ☐ College, trade school, military, or entrepreneurship preparation matters to us
  • ☐ We value strong writing, discussion, and critical-thinking skills
  • ☐ We want our teen to graduate confident and capable

Schedule & Family Partnership

  • ☐ We are comfortable with a university-style schedule (3 days on campus, 2 days guided independent work)
  • ☐ We are willing to partner with the school to support responsibility at home
  • ☐ We appreciate clear communication and shared expectations

This School May NOT Be the Best Fit If:

  • ☐ My teen needs constant supervision to complete work
  • ☐ We prefer a traditional 5-day, bell-to-bell school schedule
  • ☐ We are looking for minimal parent involvement
  • ☐ My teen strongly resists structure or accountability
  • ☐ We are seeking a sports-first or superficial competitive social environment

Ask Yourself:

  • What kind of adult do we want our teen to become?
  • Are we more concerned with short-term comfort or long-term growth?
  • Is our teen ready to grow in responsibility with support?

Our Philosophy

We believe the best educational environments are not for everyone, they are for the right families. When there is strong alignment between school, student, and parent, students thrive.
